Minds on Fire Book Reading (Tuesday Track)
September 14, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
If you’re curious about using games and simulations in your classes, and are interested in engaging with colleagues from the CU System, the ASSETT Innovation Incubator Student Success team invites faculty and graduate students from the CU Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver campuses to participate in a system-wide Gamification Reading Group.
We will explore the value of the Humanities expressed through Reacting to the Past (RTTP) pedagogy while reading Minds on Fire: How Role-Immersion Games Transform College. RTTP involves role-playing games in historical scenarios. You’ll gain the expertise from invited guest speakers who will address the benefits of RTTP. And have the opportunity to participate in a game to experience what is expected from your students. At the close of the reading group, Minds on Fire author and historian at Barnard College, Mark Carnes, will host a special, virtual talk about how he developed the Reacting to the Past pedagogy.
The President’s Fund for the Humanities grant will provide a free, paperback copy of Minds on Fire to participants who sign up by September 1, 2021.
This is a reading group based at the Boulder campus. Participants from the other campuses are encouraged to participate from a central location with zoom capabilities.
